Equity benchmark indices fell in noon trade on Wednesday amid selling pressure in the PSU Bank, IT, and FMCG sectors ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy outcome due later in the day.
The stock market had gained in the morning session led by financial services firms after positive statements from senior government officials. However, markets turned choppy as investors were cautious ahead of the expiry of September derivative contracts on Thursday.
On the sectoral front, FMCG, IT, PSU bank, media, auto, and pharma led the decline in the market, while realty and financial services shares led the gainer's pack.
